

Born September 28, 1942 in Knoxville, TN to Robert and Mamie (Thomas) Jackson, he married Millie Lippert on December 19, 1963 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Tina R. (Brad) Marks of Morton; one son, Hank (Robyn) Jackson of Peoria; four grandchildren, Jonathan Marks, Amanda Marks, both of Morton, Evan Jackson of Peoria and Justin Schenck of New York City and one brother, Arthur Jackson of Maryville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jennie Fagg and Barbara Soeurt.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1965.
Vern retired from Lexington Truck & Trailer, last working in December. He previously worked as the Parts Department Manager for Drum-White and also Road Equipment Company.
Vern loved working with his hands and did carpentry work building and remodeling homes for his family. He also was proud to have built three homes for Millie and himself. Vern enjoyed yard work and also was a backyard farmer.
His family and grandkids were first in his life.
Vern attended First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Creve Coeur.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. The Rev. Dwight Winnett will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and also 30 minutes before the funeral. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
