Virgil Dean McMurtrey

Born July 2, 1940 in Cabool, Missouri to Clyde and Bernice (Strain) McMurtrey, he married Barbara A. McCollum on October 12, 1959, in Crocker. She preceded him in death.

Also preceded in death are his parents; one infant son; Gregory Lee; one son -in-law, Andrew Nordwall; one grandson, Kyle McMurtrey; four brothers, Jim McMurtrey, Dale McMurtrey, John-Paul McMurtrey and George McMurtrey and one sister, Louise Routh.

Surviving are his children, Larry (Shelly) McMurtrey and Shelley Nordwall of Washington; two grandsons, Gregory (Kristina) McMurtrey of Bartonville and Ryan (Natalie) of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte McMurtrey, Grayson McMurtrey and Alleianah McMurtrey; one sister, Norma (Gary) Marso of Missouri and one sister-in-law, Judy McMurtrey, also of Missouri.

For 23 years Virg worked in sales service in the heavy equipment industry. He had worked at Machinery Inc. for several years but also brokered independently.

He enjoyed watching stock car races and fishing.

His graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. Pastor Keith Thibo will officiate. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
