

Born August 28, 1941 in Pekin to Julius E. and Ethel (Litterest) Sandall, he married Judy Goss in 1960 in Las Vegas. He then married Brenda McAllister on November 22, 1975 in Peoria. He later married Jane Ann (Reynolds) Smith on August 18, 2018 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jack (Kelley) Sandall of Pekin and Matthew (Christina) Sandall of Morton; two daughters, Jill (Brad) McKinley of Pekin and Jennifer (Stephen) Bock of Murphysboro, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and his favorite pet, Abby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Ralph Jones; one brother, Warren Sandall; one sister, Marcella Simmons and one nephew, Aaron Sandall.
Walt was a United States Marine Corps. veteran serving from 1959 to 1963 and attained the rank of Corporal. Following his time in the service, Walt went to work for CENTEL as a lineman. Then in September of 1964, he joined the Pekin Police Department and served the City of Pekin for 28 years, retiring as Captain in the Investigations Unit. He was an entrepreneur and also owned and operated Sandall Landscaping in which he did snow removal, landscaping projects and Swim Tech swimming pool construction. He also had a shoe store in the Pekin Mall, called Sandall-n-Shoes, which later relocated to downtown Pekin. After retirement, Walt worked security at Powerton and then enjoyed spending time in Florida with his wife, Jane.
He was a member, Past Commandant and Chaplain of Tobin-Nanninga Marine Corps. League Detachment #085 in Pekin. He also was a member and served with the Marine Vets Motorcycle Club, Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 and Pekin Moose Family Center 916. He enjoyed fishing, camping and bowling.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pekin.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Vernon Risner will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Marine Corps and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Honors will also be provided by the Pekin Police Department.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pekin Police Foundation or to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight. Walt was honored to travel with the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in June of 2022.
