

Born March 27, 1930 in Peoria to Roy L. and Lula R. (Hopper) Hayes, he married Marilyn J. Cunningham on May 9, 1954 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Christy Hayes of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma and Susan L. (Jay) Greener of Deerfield; six grandchildren, Shane J. (Stacey) Hayes and Joshua (Autumn) Hayes, both of Pekin, Elijah Hayes of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma, Jonathan (Emily) Greener, Caitlin Greener, both of Chicago and Nicholas (Lauren) Greener of Deerfield; and four great-grandchildren, Gavin Lohnes, Phoenix Hayes, Jude Greener and Owen Greener.
He was a graduate of Bradley University Class of 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
He served as an officer in the Air National Guard 169th Fighter Squadron from 1951 to 1962.
Wayne had worked as an employee of the Prudential Insurance Company for 36 years, retiring in 1988. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Certified Financial Consultant. He had been a member of the Life Underwriters Association and also the General Agent and Managers Association.
He attended Driven Church, First Assembly of God in Pekin. Wayne was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Pekin.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Canon Jay L. Greener, his son-in-law, and Rev. David Carrington will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL 61554. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman who loved pets and critters.
Wayne also included a personal note for his own obituary: “To my wife, children, grandchildren and relatives: I loved each of you dearly. To all my friends, thanks. See you all down the road”
