

Born July 4, 1923 in Burlington, Iowa to Frank and Beatrice (Bunker) Cassidy, he married Dorothy Mae Starcevich on March 1, 1974 in North Pekin. She died August 13, 2006 in Pekin. Also preceding him in death is one grandson, Brad Follis and one brother, Frank Cassidy.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Scott of Pekin and Nancy Monroe of Mt. Pulaski; three sons, David (Debbie) Cassidy of Pekin; Larry (Cher) Cassidy of Gilbert, Arizona and Mike (Vicky) Cassidy of Fort Worth, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Sconce of Troy, Missouri.
William was in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 serving as a Gunners Mate Third Class.
He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Pekin Moose Family Center #916, Paul Towne Memorial Amvets Post #169 in North Pekin and Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1232.
William liked to do oil paintings, woodworking and to build things. He also enjoyed working puzzles and playing cards at the Miller Center.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
William was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
His memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, with military rights accorded by the US Navy and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
