Born on December 28, 1980 in Peoria, he was a son of William James and Kathy Jean (Graves) Kelley, Jr.
Surviving are his mother of Springfield, Illinois; three brothers, Marc (Brandy) Graves of Springfield, Christopher Kelley of Washington and Kevin Kelley of Madison, Wisconsin; two sisters, Dawn (Ryan) Gartmann of Peoria and Bridget (Steven) Harris of Goodyear, Arizona; five nephews and five nieces.
His father preceded him in death.
BJ had worked as a machinist and most recently was working as an HVAC technician.
He was loyal and proud—proud to be Irish, and steadfastly devoted to his family and friends. William loved the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, and he enjoyed playing strategy games. An avid reader and proud history buff, he took particular interest in World War II history. He will also be remembered for his memorable belly laugh that was contagious to those around him.
BJ was of the Catholic faith.
His graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, where military honors will be accorded. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 401 Northeast Adams, Peoria, IL 61603.
In a final act of generosity, William gave the gift of life through the Indiana Donor Network.
