Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Alice Moon, and two brothers-in-law, Doug Morton and Randy Riffe.
Survivors include Allen's wife, Pat, to whom he was wed on August 20, 1981; seven sisters and brothers, Pam Riffe, Gary Moon (Eleanor), Kevin Moon, Randy Moon (Val), Susan Moon (Fred), Brian Moon (Ann), and Greg Moon (Paris); sister-in-law, Roanna Cook; many nieces and nephews; along with great-nieces and great-nephews.
After graduating from John Carroll High School in Birmingham, Alabama in 1968, Allen enrolled at University of Alabama, Birmingham, where he earned Master of Science degrees in Healthcare Informatics and Hospital Administration, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Biology. In addition, at UAB he completed requirements for his Certification in Medical Technology.
Allen said his UAB education helped him immensely in his 10-year, professional career in administration at hospitals in Columbia, South Carolina, Falls Church, Virginia, Dothan, Alabama, Denver, Colorado, Atlanta, Georgia, and Gadsden, Alabama. He found perhaps his greatest fulfillment professionally, however, as a Medical Technologist on the Emergency Department Laboratory staff at UAB Hospital from 2004 until his retirement in 2014.
In his leisure, Allen enjoyed computers, woodworking, Auburn football, and his dog Mattie.
Allen's family has planned a private graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be designated in honor and memory of Allen Walker Moon for the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.
