

Betty Ruth Legg Cool died of natural causes November 15, 2015. She was 85 years old and last resided in Birmingham, Alabama. Betty was born in Camden-on-Gauley, West Virginia, September 29, 1930. She was the daughter of Thomas Henry Legg and Esther May Ashley.
Betty attended Webster Springs High School where she met her future husband, Brent Alden Cool. Brent and Betty were married in 1952 after Brent graduated from Glenville State and subsequently enlisted in the Air Force. Through his military assignments Brent, Betty and family traveled around the world including the states of Texas, California, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia and Arizona. They also lived overseas in England for several years and had the opportunity to see many parts of Europe. While living in Smyrna, Tennessee, Betty gave birth to two of their children, Teresa Robin, 1956, and Timothy Alden, 1957. Just before they left the states for England in 1959, their third child, Thomas Patrick, was born.
Besides her total devotion to her family, Betty enjoyed playing the piano and the organ. Throughout her life wherever the family lived she played for church services, restaurants and other venues. She also enjoyed painting, sewing, (including making stuffed animals for her children and grandchildren), bowling, and leading bible studies.
Betty will be remembered for her unconditional love, forgiveness, caring of family and friends, and her strong religious and spiritual leadership. She made a remarkable impact on the many people who knew her throughout her life.
Betty is survived by her oldest son, Dr. Timothy Alden Cool and his wife, Gayle Chambless Cool and their children Brent William Cool (Alana), Leisa Ashley Cool Thompson (Bret) and Carol Alexandrea Cool. In Tampa, FL she is survived by her youngest son, Thomas Patrick Cool and his wife Kathy Smith Cool and their children Sarah Marie Cool and Lauren Katherine Cool. Betty is predeceased by her husband, Brent; daughter, Teresa and 7 older siblings; brothers, Burnell, Dorman, Ted, Robert, Lewis, and Paul and sister, Marie.
A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Keith Thompson, is to be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, in Pelham, AL 35124 on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 3:30pm with visitation beginning at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of America or the Cure Alzheimer Fund (curealz.org).
