The U.S. Navy Veteran was a resident of Pelham, Alabama. After graduating from West Side High School in Greers Ferry, Arkansas, he earned his undergraduate college degree at the University of Central Arkansas. His professional career was in computer programming with BellSouth, AT&T, Accenture, and Regions Bank.
Carl was a long-time, active member of First Baptist Church of Pelham. When he wasn't enjoying time with his grandchildren, he loved to go fishing and participate on church mission trips. "Papa" was his grandkids' biggest fan! He came to every ball game/tournament, wrestling match, school lunch, or honors program that he could attend. He also loved taking his son, John, and the grandkids fishing in Louisiana or tubing on the lake.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ruby Firstbrook, and one sister, Marie Peake. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Firstbrook, to whom he was married on May 22, 1976; their son and daughter-in-law, John and Brandy Firstbrook; grandchildren, Rebecca Firstbrook, Elijah Firstbrook, and Luke Firstbrook; and nephews, Matt Waller and Adam Peake.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Pelham from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by A Celebration of Carl's Life at 11 a.m. at the church. The gravesite committal service and interment will begin at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25 at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo. Pastor Daven Watkins will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Resting Place of Pelham.
