Carol grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, living there her entire life. She graduated in 1957 from Ensley High School, where she met her future husband, Alan Holmes. They were married in June 1957 and went on to have a marriage lasting 59 years.
Carol graduated from Jefferson State Community College in 1978, obtaining a nursing degree. She worked as an RN at UAB Hospital for over 20 years, most of those years spent as Head Nurse in Cardiology.
Carol enjoyed gardening, singing in the church choir, walking her dog (Pepper), reading, and listening to classic country music. Most especially, however, she treasured time spent with her family. Her Christian faith was very important to her all of her life. She spent many hours studying her Bible and was faithful in prayer. We rejoice to know that she is now in God's presence. She will, however, be painfully missed.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Alan G. Holmes, Sr.; her parents, Jimmie and Mary Lane Panos, RG and Margaret Lantrip; and her sister, Jean Johnson (Urban). She is survived by her sister, Mary Clark (Glenn), Marianna, Florida; her brother, Roy Lantrip (Barbara), Birmingham; her daughter, Leslie H. Turner (Wesley), Columbus, Georgia; her son, Graham Holmes (Sally), Homewood; her daughter, Sandy H. Griffin (Craig), Atlanta, Georgia; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by A Service of Remembrance for Carol at 11 a.m. at the funeral home's chapel, Pelham. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Carol's church, Mountain Brook Community Church, 3001 US-280, Birmingham, AL, 35243.
