

MEYER, CAROL ZIMMERMAN, age 83, a recent resident of Greenbriar at the Altamont in Birmingham and longtime resident of Hoover, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Eric A. Meyer; and sister, Mary Smith of Stow, Ohio.
Carol was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, and sister, but she enriched countless other lives in her long career as a school teacher, nurse’s aide and social worker. In September 1992, she retired after several years as a social worker in the Adult Services Division of the Alabama Department of Human Resources. The Lodi, Ohio native attended Syracuse University before earning her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education at the State University of New York Teachers College at Cortland.
Carol is survived by her eight children, Laurie Meyer (James) of Alabaster, Mary L. Meyer of Birmingham, Andrew J. Meyer (Linda) of Lester, Kathy A. Glover (Gene) of Clay, Steve Meyer of Bessemer, Michele Meyer of Homewood, Jonathan Meyer of Calera, and Michael Meyer (Carol) of Talpalpa, Mexico. Also surviving Carol are her 14 grandchildren, Alexander, Michael, Rebecca, Leah, Sarah, Priscilla, Josiah, Jonathan, Caroline Rose, Matthew Stephen, Erik, Abigail, Lydia, and Timothy; sister, Ruth Becka (Edward) of Alexander, North Carolina; and brother, Willy Zimmerman (Pat) of Tallmadge, Ohio.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service in the chapel of Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. Burial will immediately follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
