Carolyn D. Lott

Carolyn Lott passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the age of 85. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery in Pelham, AL. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. A graveside burial service will follow.

Carolyn was born March 17, 1927, in Atlanta, GA to her parents, William B. Duncan and Lula Pearl Butler Duncan. She was a resident of Birmingham most of her life. Mrs. Lott was a graduate of Woodlawn High School and attended the University of Alabama from 1945-1946. She received a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education in 1977 and a Master’s Degree in 1979 from UAB while working in the Guidance Department of Birmingham City Schools. She was elected to the Kappa Delta Epsilon Honor Society Beta Iota Chapter in 1986. Carolyn taught 7th and 8th grade math at Huffman Middle School until her retirement in June, 1989.She was elected to the school’s first Hall of Fame in 1993-1994.

After moving to Hoover in 1984 with her husband, Bobby, Carolyn became involved with civic clubs in the community. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International-Gamma Kappa Chapter, Hoover Service Club, Hoover Historical Society, Friends of the Hoover Library, Star Lake Garden Club, Aldridge Gardens, Hoover Beautification Board and Hoover Country Club.Mrs. Lott received the Flora Mae Pike Hoover Community Service Award in 1999-2000.She was a former member of Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church for 35 years, and presently a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Lott was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Robert Lee Lott, III (Bobby), her sister, Betty Ann Duncan Gilbert, Huntsville, AL and her brother, Bill Duncan, Clarksville, TN. She is survived by her four sons and spouses, Randy (Glenda), Ricky (Rebecca), of Birmingham, Duncan “Bubba” (Karen) of Booneville, MS and Gary (Melody) of Atlanta, GA, her sisters, Catherine Duncan Felder, Huntsville, AL, and Frances Duncan Cheatham, Austin, TX, and sister-in-law Nancy Lott Barclift(Preston), Florence, AL. Carolyn’s grandchildren include: Jennifer (Charles) Dowling, Jamie (Matt) Wilson, Casey (Amanda) Lott, Bryce (Amanda) Lott, Zane Lott, Andy (Sara) Lott, Stephanie (Robert) Ozols, and Abbie Lott. Her great grandchildren include: Kailey Dowling, Vivian Dowling, Britton Wilson, Cade Lott, Cohen Lott, Addie Lott, and Lily Lott.

The family would like to thank her caregivers: Tammy, Michelle, Gwen and the nurses of Care First Hospice. Serving as Pall Bearers will be Casey Lott, Bryce Lott, Zane Lott, Andy Lott, Matt Wilson, and Charles Dowling. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverchase United Methodist Church or the Big Oak Ranch.
