Charles Earl Cowan

COWAN, CHARLES EARL, 70, of Birmingham, Alabama, died Monday morning, March 12, 2012. Originally from Windsor, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Fred E. Cowan and Flora Floyd Cowan of Windsor. He was the last of a family of nine boys. Those left to love and cherish Charles’s memories are his loving wife of 47 years, Betsy Dyches Cowan; his two daughters, Debbie Cowan Metcalfe and Cindy Cowan Bailey; and his four adored grandchildren, Amanda Elise Metcalfe, Casey Michelle Bailey, Matthew Dale Metcalfe, and Charles Garrett Bailey. Charles was a faithful servant of God and a long time member of North Shelby Baptist Church in Birmingham. He was truly a beloved family man who devoted his life to his family, most often seen with his grandchildren after retiring seven years ago from 38 years with The Quaker Oats Company. The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation at North Shelby Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial, Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham, Alabama. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Debt Retirement Fund at North Shelby Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements were made by Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama.
