Born on September 6, 1928 in Birmingham, Joe was the only child of Clarence and Olive Lloyd and grew up in the Central Park community where he graduated from West End High School. He enrolled at the University of Alabama, but left school early to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in Iceland during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he attended Troy State University where he graduated in 1956.
Joe spent the majority of his professional career working in the computer industry where he once spent several years working for NASA and the space program at Cape Canaveral, Florida. He later returned home to Birmingham where he was retired from Big B Drugs as the Director of Data Processing.
Joe had a deep affection for the outdoors and a genuine love for animals, especially his husky, Dixie. He was a loyal fan of University of Alabama football and for many years was an avid tennis player. He was a member of the "Central Park Boys" and cherished every one of these men who were lifelong friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Evelyn Williford Lloyd. He is survived by his son, Joey Lloyd (DeLesia); daughters, Terri Raley (Jim) and Sherrie Imbusch (David); grandchildren, Meredith Binkley (Ryan), Erica Bradberry (Ryan), Rachel Digirolamo (Matt), Drew Raley (Claire), Daniel Eichhorn, Emily Eichhorn, Tyler Raley, Hunter Myers (Kari), Jordan Myers (Ashley), Madison Imbusch, Will Imbusch, and John David Imbusch; and great-grandchildren, Josie, Evie, Tucker, Drake, Hallie, Blakely, and Brayden.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the kind and compassionate staff of Compassus Hospice and St Martin's in the Pines. We are forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, Joe would have deeply appreciated your donation to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society or to the American Cancer Society.
