Lloyd was born in Walker County, Alabama to Samuel Dewey and Effie Tyler Northcutt. He had two brothers, Ray Northcutt (Betty) and Bill Northcutt (Sue). After starting high school at Carbon Hill, the family moved to Dora, Alabama. He graduated from Dora High School.
Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy (1942-1946) during WWII. He was enrolled into Aviation Medicine School and at completion, he was assigned to work with the Flight Surgeon team for two years. He then attended Hospital Corp Advanced School in preparation for independent duty. On graduation, he was accepted into Submarine Medicine school. After completion of the program, he was assigned to a submarine tender that went to Hiroshima and Nagasaki after Japan’s surrender. Lloyd was then assigned to a prize crew to board a Japanese submarine and take it back to Pearl Harbor. The submarine was one of three that was specially built in Japan for the war and carried war planes inside of it. The submarines and planes were delivered and Lloyd returned home to Alabama. His Navy service remained a source of pride throughout his entire life and was the foundation of his strong patriotism.
It also led him on a path as lifelong learner, especially in the field of medicine. Lloyd owned the Northcutt Insurance Agency, was a sales agent for American Bakeries, Red Diamond Coffee, a Gallery of Homes Real Estate and retired after 35 years at the Post Office.
It was the American Bakery where he met and married the love of his life, Claudine Noles on Valentine’s Day, 1952. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2022. Claudine died the following year.
Lloyd and Claudine had two children, Connie Northcutt Popper (Dave) and Scott Malloyd Northcutt; two grandchildren, Amy Popper Painter (Brandon) and David Matthew Popper; and one great-grandson, Colten David Painter.
They built a loving family on the cornerstone of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Alabama football (Roll Tide). He was a beloved member of Sandusky United Methodist Church and Valleydale Baptist Church, serving and teaching for many years.
He enjoyed numerous hobbies such as gardening, painting, wood-crafting and playing music.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 10-11 a.m., followed by A Celebration of Mr. Northcutt's Life at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
