

Daniel Merrill Spitler Jr. was born on September 29, 1939, to the late Daniel Merrill Spitler and Alice Alma Crisler Spitler in Cape, Girardeau, Missouri. Daniel received his formal education at Lilbourn Grade High School. He furthered his education at Central Methodist College, University of Missouri and Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Daniel was married to Janice Riechmann on February 3, 1962, in Columbia, Missouri. Their union was blessed with two children. Daniel proudly served in the Missouri and Alabama National Guard. He was in the private practice of law for 21 years. In his leisure, he enjoyed photography, fishing, scuba diving, traveling in his Allegro Bus throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico, gardening for fruits, vegetables, and flowers, natural landscaping and spending time with his feline fur babies. Daniel was an Eagle Scout, School photographer at Fayette, Missouri (while in college) and Heart of Dixie Allegro Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Merrill Spitler and Alice Alma Crisler Spitler; sister, Merrilyn Dale Spitler Crews.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Janice Spitler; two children, Cris Leigh Spitler Brooks (Tim) of Lincoln, AL and Julie Spitler Hall of Calera, AL; grandchildren, Danielle Hall Gonzalez, Caroline Hall, Bryant Hall, Kristen Brooks Summerfield, Geoffrey Hall, Jessica Brooks Evans; two brothers, Allen Spitler, M.D. of Cape, Girardeau and Honorable Charles L. Spitler of New Madrid, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shelby Humane Society or O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center for Excellence.
