
The Hoover, Alabama resident was a graduate of Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Missouri. He received his undergraduate degrees in physics and civil engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla. His professional career spanned several years in fiber optics with BellSouth.
David was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. His favorite pastimes were fishing, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Reve Wilmont, and a great-granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, the former Susan Marie Mathias, to whom he was married on August 16, 1969; two daughters, Ginger Fuller (Randy) and Joy Gandy (Charles); seven grandchildren, Taylore Fuller (Cedric), Caitlan Baker (Michael), Randy Fuller (Gena), Nikki Fuller, Charlie Gandy, Molly Gandy, and Marshall Gandy; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Randy Wilmont (Judy).
David's family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama from 10-11 a.m., followed by the Memorial Service at 11 a.m. at the church. Also on Monday, March 2, the gravesite committal service and inurnment will begin at 2 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo. Dr. Greg Corbin will officiate.
