Demetra met the love of her life, Jimmy Patrick, at Jones Valley High School in 1967. Their connection blossomed into a 57-year journey of partnership, with their marriage in 1968. Together, they built a life rooted in faith and family, raising two children, Chris and Jennifer.
Demetra was a devoted member of the Oak Mountain Church of Christ, where she found great joy and purpose within her church community. However, her greatest masterpiece was her family. As a grandmother, she was profoundly involved, pouring her heart into her four grandchildren. Whether she was spending hours sewing intricate, handmade clothing for them or cheering from the sidelines of countless sporting events, she was one of their constant, faithful supporters.
Monthly “spend the night” parties were a staple of her home, where grandchildren were happily “spoiled” with tradition-filled trips to the Dollar Store and Krispy Kreme.
Family gatherings were Demetra’s priority; no birthday passed without the warmth of her presence and the centerpiece of a delicious, homemade cake or pie.
She and Jimmy shared a love for University of Alabama football, spending decades of Saturdays together in the stands. In retirement, her sense of adventure flourished — whether traveling the country with dear friends Pixie and John Martin, or supporting Jimmy’s passions for antique cars, motorcycles, and RV trips.
Demetra was preceded in death by her parents, James Leamon and Kitty Lou Jones, and her sister, Winona “Nona” Jones Miller.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Jimmy Patrick; her children, Chris Patrick (Sarah) and Jennifer Patrick Church (Dan); and her cherished grandchildren, Anna Kate Church, Carson Church, Morgan Patrick, and Blake Patrick.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Gentiva Hospice, especially Sidney and Teresa, for their compassionate care, as well as to Aspire Physical Recovery Center at Hoover for their support during Demetra’s final days.
A celebration of Demetra’s life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. Visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the ALS Association in Demetra’s memory.
Demetra will be deeply missed, but her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with those who have gone before her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on in all who knew her.
