

Demisha W. Scrushy, age 63, native of Selma, AL, lost her courageous battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on April the 11th of 2015. Demisha was a graduate of University of Montevallo where she received her undergraduate, masters, and education specialist degrees in elementary education. Her teaching career spanned 25 years with the majority of the time at Elvin Hill Elementary School in Columbiana, Alabama. Demisha served as an adjunct professor at the University of Montevallo, supervising student teachers and teaching elementary reading courses. She currently resides in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Gerald Scrushy; niece, Noel Scrushy. She is survived by her spouse of 34 years Paula Smith; daughter, Jamie (Jeffrey) Dear and grand daughter Caroline Porterfield and expected grandaughter Henley Dear; brother, Richard (Leslie) Scrushy and children, Christa (Mike) Plaia, Amy (Martin) Adams, Melissa (Michael) Watson, Brandon, Marinda, Brooks, Chloe, Gracie, and Jaden Scrushy; brother, Jerry (Kimberly) Scrushy and daughter Meredith Anne; great-nieces and nephews, Chase and Anna Brooke Adams; Isabella(God daughter), Sophia, Max, and Alex Plaia; Porter Watson; a sister by choice, special friend and caregiver, Brenda Hendrix. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. The visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday April 15th from 6pm to 8pm with a celebration of life service in the chapel on Thursday at Southern Heritage at 1pm with a graveside service immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at lls.org/waystohelp/donate.
