Dessie Dimple Yelverton Bergeron, age 94 passed away peacefully on Friday August 15th, 2025, in her home in Hoover, AL. She was born April 5th, 1931 in Smith County, MS to Clarence William Yelverton and Ruby Myrtle Boykin-Yelverton. She moved to Birmingham in her early 20’s to attend Birmingham Southern College and while in Birmingham married Joseph Lionel Bergeron. She had three boys Joseph, Barry and Shane Bergeron, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was a sort of pioneer for women as one of the first female managers in her company in the 60’s & 70’s, heading up the Data Computing team for Southern Natural Gas in a time when computers were the size of an entire room and used punch cards to enter data.
She was the last of her many siblings and is survived by her son Barry, five of her grandchildren, all of her great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was always the smile of the party making witty jokes and thinking of how best to keep everyone smiling.
She touched many lives, and we would like to invite anyone that crossed her path to attend her funeral at Southern Heritage Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24, at 1:00 pm followed by a chapel service at 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow.
