Barbara Diann Adams Gurley Horton, 90, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025. She was born August 14, 1934 in Oxford, Alabama, the sixth child of Nellie Viola and Joseph Lee Adams.
Diann grew up in Anniston, Alabama, where she met Jack Russell Gurley while both worked at General Electric. They married in 1955, and within the next few years, Diann became a devoted mother of two daughters and one son. She was always highly involved in their lives, helping them to be successful in school and in their extracurricular activities.
After Jack passed away in 2003, Diann met Tom Horton and they soon married. They enjoyed life together until he passed away seven years later.
One of the most important aspects of Diann’s life was, that from the earliest age, she was so beloved by the Lord that He led a neighbor to take her to church each Sunday. She soon became a Christian, and as an adult, she and Jack raised their three children in the church, reading them Bible stories at night and encouraging their faith. This was the greatest gift she could give her children, for now this Christian heritage has been passed down to her 14 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren!
Diann is survived by her three children, Lynne Prickett (Charlie), Ann Aycock (Jimmy), and Russ Gurley (Katherine); grandchildren, Russ Prickett (Colleen), Leigh Stricklin (Justin), Lyndsey Bone (Patrick), Andy Prickett (Melissa), Laura Ann Holland (Jordan), Nathan Aycock (Jessica), Joel Aycock (Maite), Sarah Overcash (Chandler), Bethany Wilroy (Jereme), Austin Gurley (Meg), Will Gurley (Lacey), Adam Gurley (Kayla), Bain Gurley (Katie), and Madi Gray (Payton). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Sam, Henry, Alan, Sarah, Melodie, Jack, Emerson, Ellis, Ford, Isobel, Annalyse, Shepherd, Clara, Callum, Auden, Bethany, Olivia, JJ, Caleb, Emmi, Noah Catherine, Weston, Micah, River, Jude, Oakland, Joseph, Jubilee, Cana, Hal, John, Jack, Ryder, Marley, Sylvie, Josie, Riley, Ellie, and Hampton.
The Lord Jesus has always taken care of Diann and now as she enters heaven, we know that He is saying, “Well done, My good and faithful servant! ”
