She was born on April 24, 1936 in Pusan, S. Korea as Chang Ok Sun. In October 1954, Don Pontius separated from the U.S. Army after serving as an Artilleryman during the Korean War and upon his separation joined the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) organization. Soon thereafter, he met and subsequently married Dollie on September 21, 1956 in God’s house and on October 19, 1956 at the American Embassy.
Dollie was a #1 wife, #1 mother, #1 Nana/grandmother, #1 friend, #1 college football picker, and a sweet child of the Lord. She had a wonderful life raising her family and traveling the world with Don and between them visited 43 countries and 49 U.S. states.
In 2005 Don and Dollie moved to Chelsea to be closer to their grandchildren. Her first passion was cooking for her family but college football season was a close second. We could write a book about all the happy and funny memories we have but we believe that the sweetness and beauty in her smile expresses her spirit better than any words we write. We send her away using the words Dollie always ended her conversation with her family: "I love you more!"
In addition to Dollie's husband Don, survivors include two sons, Bill Pontius and Larry Pontius (Angela); one daughter, Sue Pontius (Tom Dickens); and five grandchildren, Madison (Garrison Wetmore), Melissa, Alex (Kierstin), Noah, and Lily. The birth of Dollie's first great-grandchild is expected soon.
The family is planning a private service to celebrate Dollie's life and legacy.
