

Although born in Pine Prairie, Louisiana, Dorothy spent most of her adult life in New Orleans, where she graduated with the Class of 1946 from Mather School of Nursing of Southern Baptist Hospital. During her nursing years, she worked for Southern Baptist Hospital, Lakeside Hospital, East Jefferson Hospital and Browne McCarty Clinic. After Katrina in 2005, she relocated to Hoover, AL, which brought her closer to family. She enjoyed the people of her new church home, Bluff Park Baptist Church, and very much enjoyed her Sunday School “Pairs & Spares” class.
Mrs. Gardner is preceded in death by her husband, Victor M. Gardner and by her parents, Joseph B. and Eunice Lightfoot Fontenot, her son-in-law, Jerry Phillips, and by her brothers, Joel D. Fontenot, Robert L. Fontenot and Carl Fontenot. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra G. Phillips and Pamela G. Bushnell (Van); grandchildren, Spring Bushnell Allen and Michael “Dagan” Bushnell; and great grandchildren, Sydney Allen, Parker Allen, Tyler Bushnell and Natalie Bushnell.
The celebration of Dorothy’s life will be at 2pm on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1pm. Mrs. Gardner will be buried at 10:30am on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Fontenot Cemetery in Pine Prairie, LA.
