100 years young and affectionately known as “Grandot” by her many “chosen“ children, grand and great grandchildren, Dorothy passed into the Lord’s loving arms after a short illness on January 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Ward H. Parsons.
Dorothy was a 29 year member of Riverchase United Methodist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class. She loved our Lord and His Son Jesus Christ with all her heart. Special interests included classical music, opera, theater, dancing - Cheramis Dance Club, reading, entertaining, travel, photography, Hoover Marathon Bridge Club and VISTA.
She was a member of the National Honor Society at Phillips High School and worked for the Labor Department at its Birmingham offices during and after WW2.
She is survived by daughter Lindsay and son-in-law Lee Mckee, niece Sharron Lancaster and her husband William Dougherty, great nephew Matt Lancaster, his wife Bethany and stepdaughter Ellie, nephew Alan Read, his wife, Cathy, daughters Amy and Laura, and many beloved “children of her heart” and “chosen” family members.
A private memorial service for the family is scheduled.
