

Franklin Douglas (Doug) Zoldak, age 77, of Chelsea, AL passed away peacefully on January 18, 2020. Doug was born to Franklin and Julia Zoldak on September 16, 1942 in Elizabeth, NJ. In 1960 he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth, NJ. Doug went on to graduate from Newark College of Engineering in 1965 with a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering. Doug retired after 40 years of service with Foster Wheeler Corporation. His career as a dedicated scientist and engineer included developing cleaner, more energy efficient systems as well as safer means for hazardous waste disposal. He truly worked on ways to make this world a better place. After retirement, Doug enjoyed working at Baker Lamps & Linen where he repaired lighting fixtures. He was devoted to his Catholic Religion and a faithful servant to the end.
Doug had a passion for his volunteer work as a fire fighter and subsequently Chief of the Fire Department of Mt. Arlington, NJ. He also acted as Mt. Arlington, NJ Borough councilman where he served as a liaison to the fire department. One of his achievements he held close to his heart was becoming a Eagle Scout. Doug was an avid woodworker that could build and repair anything. He never missed out watching his favorite football team The Crimson Tide bring home a win.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Julia Zoldak and his nephew Bobby. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 46 years Fran Zoldak of Chelsea, AL; children, Lisa Zoldak Schwartz, (Pt. Saint Lucie, FL), Gary Myers (Monroe Township, NJ), Michelle Thompson (Jason) of Jasper, AL; Siblings, Marilyn McSweeney (Lakewood, NJ), Bernadette Giddings (Kent) of Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren, Amber Schwartz (Pt. Saint Lucie, FL), Caden Thompson (Jasper, AL), nieces and nephews, Christine Udet, Elizabeth Giddings, Kent Giddings, Sarah Giddings, Samantha Udet, and Jamie Udet.
Visitation will be Thursday , January 23, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a service to follow at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124 (205) 988-3511.
