

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Doug moved all across the country with his father who was in the military before he settled in Birmingham, Alabama for the last 47 years. Doug graduated from Tarrant High School in 1971 and began working in the food industry while pursuing a Bachelors of Business degree from UAB. He went on to start and own his own food brokerage business for the past 40 years. Doug celebrated 32 years of marriage with Patti Sellers Tinney. An avid Alabama football fan and member of the Red Elephant Club, he spent many Saturday’s watching the Tide Roll! Doug coached his sons in football and baseball for over 14 years, and made an impact on a lot of young Hoover Bucs and Spain Park Jaguars. He went on to join the Founders Club at Spain Park High School to help begin the new school’s athletic program. A loving father, Doug enjoyed his free time with his family and friends at his home in Lake Heather Estates. He was a member of Church of the Highlands.
Survived by his wife Patti Tinney and children Stephanie Tinney Stripling (Lance), Douglas R. Tinney Jr.,
Bradford R. Tinney (Kristen), Matthew Tinney (Cicily), Sean Tinney, Chris Tinney, Ashley Thomas (Ashley),
Jessica Elmes (Thomas)and his Father Thomas Tinney. Grandchildren Haley, Brock, & Ty Stripling; Evie, Nicholas, & Harrison Elmes;
AJ & Ashton Thomas. Siblings Daniel Tinney (Barbara), Donna Von Hagel, Rod Puckett, Russel Cash. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his Mother Jeannie Tinney, Step-mother Merle Tinney.
Services will be held Saturday August 4th 2018 at The Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm, followed by a celebratory memorial service at 2:00pm.
The family would like to express the gratitude to the Cancer Treatment Center of America, and the families and friends who have reached out with their support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, family request memorials be made to Children’s Hospital of Alabama or St. Jude’s Hospital.
