

Edna Reeder Hankins of Hoover was a breast cancer survivor and had been battling Parkinson's disease several years when she passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, with burial in Southern Heritage Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30-12:00 at the funeral home. Edna was born February 11, 1936 in Greenbrier, TN. She graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1954. Edna and Bob united in marriage in 1954 and were happily married for 63 years. She was a school executive assistant for Stone Mtn Georgia, Memphis Tennessee, and Jefferson County School systems as well as the Hoover system where she retired. Edna was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Hankins is preceded in death by her infant son, Mark Ellis Hankins; parents, James C. Reeder and Edna Cole Reeder; sister, Shirley R. Durham; and brother, Milton Reeder. She is survived by her husband Robert Louis Hankins; daughters, Wanda Kay Horst and Rene' Hankins Burke (John). She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Blankenship (Joseph), Brittany Burke Alexander (Michael), and Andrew Lenn Burke with 4 great-grandchildren, Colin Paul Blankenship, Cole Louis Blankenship, Abigail Mai Alexander, and Emily Reeder Alexander. In addition she is survived by siblings, Mildred Warren, James R Reeder, and Jenny Hackney. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research .
