Rev. Edward H. Rice, of Bessemer, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Rev. Rice was born in Leesburg, FL and raised in Tampa, FL. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era from 1963 until 1968. He married his sweetheart, Doris Day, on June 21, 1969. Rev. Ed pastored Bessemer Church of God for 12 years, and he and his wife were charter members of Metropolitan Church of God.
Rev. Rice is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Viola Rice; other parents, Rev. and Mrs. C.M. Day, Sr.; and brothers-in-law, Clay Day, Jr. and Larry Boykin. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Doris Day Rice; sister, Roxie Jane Boykin; sister-in-law, Kathy Day; nephew, Brian Boykin; nieces, Emily Day and Shelley Day Johnson (Jason); great niece, Delia Johnson; and numerous other loved ones and friends.
The celebration of Rev. Rice’s life will be at 1pm on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, with visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4pm until 6pm.
