

May 3, 1926 – Oct. 29, 2014 Gene Evans, 88, of Alabaster, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Mr. Evans formerly served in the US Army, and is a World War II Veteran. He is formerly of Hackleburg, AL and Midfield, AL. Gene served as a deacon at Wilks Baptist Church and currently a lifetime deacon and trustee of First Baptist Church, Pelham, AL. He was a loving husband and a perfect earthly father and grandfather. Mr. Evans is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Imogene Shirey Evans; parents, Ben and Nancy Evans; brothers, Bernice Evans, Otis Evans, Calvin Evans and three infant brothers; and sisters, Willodean Vickery and Hazel Terry. He is survived by his daughters, Rejohnia Young (Jerry), Susan Massey (Steve) and Liz Fancher (Truman); sister, Wilma Sweeney; grandchildren, Hamilton Stuart Fancher, Colby Allen Massey, Nicholas Fancher, Jeremy Young, Christie Steele and Lindsey Bagly; and seven great grandchildren. The celebration of Gene's life will be at 2pm on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, with burial at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield. The family will receive friends from 12pm until 2pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Gene may be made to First Baptist Church, Pelham, or Tuscaloosa Rotary Honor Flight at www.honorflight.org
