

Francis C. "Frank" Izard of Vestavia Hills, AL passed away Saturday morning, July 28, 2018. He was a native of Hazlehurst, MS and was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Izard, and his five siblings. He was also preceded in death by his beloved and devoted wife of 67 years, Clarice.
Frank is survived by two sons, Craig (Melody) of Birmingham, AL and Mark (Janet) of Telluride, CO. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Georgia, of Vestavia Hills.
After serving four years in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII, Frank graduated from Mississippi State University with a BS degree in Industrial Management and Accounting in 1948. After graduation, he accepted a position with Southern Bell Telephone Company in Jackson, MS starting a 38-year career with the Bell Companies. In 1951 he was transferred to Atlanta, GA and later back to Jackson.
In 1970 Frank was transferred to Birmingham as Assistant Comptroller-Taxes for South Central Bell. The family moved to Vestavia Hills and became active in the community, school system, and Dawson Memorial Baptist church.
Frank was a member of the Birmingham Tax Club, National Association of Accountants, and the Tax Executive institute where he served on the national board of directors. After retirement in 1984, he was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 25 years. Not only was he devoted to his family and church, he was always ready to help friends and associates.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by A Celebration of Frank's Life at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
