Fred Gwin Jr, age 91 of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Monday morning December 15, 2014.
Visitation will be 1pm to 2pm on Wednesday December 17, 2014 at Southern Heritage Funeral in Pelham, Alabama. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Dr. Jim Savage officiating. The interment will be on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 2:30 pm at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville, Georgia with Rev. Jim Moore and Rev. Susan Moore-Jim Savage officiating.
He served his country in the Navy during World War II aboard ship in the Pacific theater. He had a distinguished career at Southern Railway of 42 years. He begin his career as machinist and finished in the role of labor relations negotiator. He was an active member and served in many leadership roles in his local United Methodist Church. His religious faith was the center of his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sara Guice Gwin, his children Susan Gwin Sheffield (Glenn) of Birmingham, AL, Mary Gwin Wood (Mike) of Peachtree Corners, GA;, his grandchildren Matthew Sheffield of Birmingham, AL, Katie Wood of Atlanta, GA and Lisa Sheffield of Birmingham, AL.
