Dwight was raised in Demopolis. He attended the University of Alabama and the Engineering School of Auburn University. In 1971, Dwight began his career with Patterson and Wilder Construction Company, managing all phases of water, sewer, and gas pipeline construction. Over the years, he was associated with several pipeline construction companies. He ended his career working for himself at Braswell Land and Construction Company, retiring in 2005.
Dwight was preceded in death by his wife Lynne Landrum Braswell, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Braswell Jr., brothers Nicholas Tilford Braswell III and John Webb Braswell, and his stepdaughter Jennifer Roberts Bourland.
He is survived by his son Timothy Gillette Braswell (Heather), his daughter Mary Margaret Braswell Hubbard (Lake), his stepson David Landrum Roberts (Dorothy),and his sister Adelaide Braswell Kendrick.
In retirement, he greatly enjoyed his beloved grandchildren: Brooks Patterson Braswell, John Thomas Braswell, Harper Elizabeth Braswell, George Timberlake Hubbard, Peter Knight Hubbard, Richard West Bourland, Travis Martin Bourland, and Ella Giddens Bourland.
Dwight was loved by all who knew him for his easy-going manner, his enjoyment of good times, his dry wit, and his sincere loyalty. Never one to judge, he looked for and saw the best in everyone he met. Dwight enjoyed making family and friends laugh, and he loved giving nicknames, another way of showing affection.
He was the epitome of a loving, caring parent, who often played the role of not only the father but also the mother to his children, whom he cherished. This quality continued with his grandchildren as he joyfully attended baseball, football, lacrosse games, musical performances, gymnastics events, and most recently, 1 and 4 year old birthday parties. "Paw Paw" was dearly loved by all ages.
