

George Dennis Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 97. Born to Lebanese immigrants, George lived a vibrant, well-lived life marked by faith, family, and an infectious sense of humor that kept everyone around him smiling.
A devoted family man, George cherished his late wife Lurla, and his children, Barbara, Leslie, Catherine and George II and his six grandchildren, Sydney, Harrison, Michaelanne, Zane, Michael, and Sam, who adored their playful and ever-smiling grandfather. He is also survived by his son-in-laws, Robert and Eric, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer.
George’s larger-than-life personality and wit endeared him to his many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Raised with a strong Christian faith and work ethic, George attended the University of Alabama and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. As an Air Traffic Controller, he earned two medals for exemplary service. After his military tenure, George built a remarkable career, owning a restaurant and working as a salesman in Birmingham’s steel industry until the age of 90. A pillar of his community, he was admired for his dedication and community spirit.
George’s laughter, warmth, and unwavering love for his family and faith will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services will be held on Monday May 5 at St. George Melkite Catholic Church. Visitation will be at 9:30-10:30 and Service at 10:30, graveside at Elmwood Cemetery followed by Mercy Luncheon at St. George Church. All are welcome.
