He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward (Ed) Nash Sr., who passed at the age of 87 and his beloved mother Costah Johnson Nash, who lived to the age of 96. Ed and Costah are still sorely missed by their family and friends, a testament to how truly special they were. George is having a good ole time getting re-acquainted with them right now.He is survived by his lovely wife of 36 years, Ginny Spetnagel Nash; his big brother James (Jimmy) Edward Nash Jr.; his loving and ever devoted sons Gary Alan Nash (Angela) and Steven Reeve Nash (Lucy); his wife Ginny’s children Minda T. Paxton (Andy), Ter-rell F. Travis (Sharon), Laura T. Brand (Paul) and their grandchil-dren Meriwether Martin (Andrew), Rebecca Paxton, Callie West (Wilson), Benjamin Travis, Samantha Travis, Audrey Travis, Travis Brand (Sarah) and Christine Messer (Jonathan) and his nieces Jill Borders, Amy Pigg (Mike) and Gail Osborne (David).George Nash grew up in North Birmingham. He often reflected on his memorable childhood and the close life-long friendships that he formed in the neighborhood. His father Ed worked for ACIPCO and his mother Costah worked in the home raising Jimmy and George. She raised a of a couple of their best buddies, too. George attended Eagan Elementary School and then attended Phillips High School from 1948-51. He was quite an athlete play-ing on the school Baseball, Football and Basketball teams. He was the Captain of the Football team in 1951 and played on the Championship Team of 1950. From there he went on to Alabama Polytechnic Institute/Auburn University and played Freshman Baseball. He was a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and graduated in the Class of 1959 with a BS in Business Admin-istration. He often boasted that he graduated in the last Class of Alabama Polytechnic Institute. George’s attendance at API was in-terrupted by service in the Navy. He went back to API to complete his final year of studies and get his degree “because his Mamma told him to, and he ALWAYS did what his mamma said.”George worked 35 years for State Farm Insurance as an Auto-mobile Claims Adjuster and Claims Supervisor. He worked even harder enjoying life. He and his wife loved fishing, traveling, camping and visiting friends. Once they took a trip down the Col-orado River in a raft to see the Grand Canyon the way it should be seen. Anyone who really knew George knew that he was not one to sit around. Not even for a minute. He kept very busy social-izing, whether he was meeting a group of buddies for coffee on Tuesdays at The Galleria, playing golf, attending a UAB Basketball game or an Auburn Football game, working out at the YMCA, or having a weekly lunch with his sons. He was a long time member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church where he participated in the Friendship Sunday School Class with a very close group of active friends. More recently he dedicated himself to the care of his wife Ginny who suffers from Alzheimers. She resides at Mount Royal. He visited her regularly, took her to the beauty salon, to church and to visit their friends. The family would like to thank all of his friends who have made his experience in life so full. They also thank the staff at Mount Royal who so lovingly take care of Ginny and who also cared for George in the last few hours of his life. Finally they want to thank the dedi-cated Firemen and Policemen of Vestavia Hills who responded to the 911 call at Mount Royal. Bless you all.In lieu of flowers, George requested that you make a donation to Bluff Park United Methodist Church. There will be a Memorial Service to commemorate his life at Bluff Park United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 10, 2018. The Service will start at 2:00 pm in the Main Sanctuary followed by interment and Fellowship in the Church Parlor.
