

Wayne graduated from Two Rivers High School and earned his Bachelor's of Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Tennessee. His professional career spanned several years in engineering and commercial painting, including the 20 years he was owner of WF Painting Company.
Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Tennessee and later of Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Birmingham. The three main "loves" of his life were family, faith, and woodworking.
Preceding Wayne in death were his parents, Lillian and Jack Fanning. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Janet Dale Landrum, whom he married on September 14, 1969; two children, Andrew Fanning (Lora Lynn) and Katie Fanning Dixon (Jeremy); his 10 cherished grandchildren, Sam, Ian, Adam, Ellen, Willa, Mira, and Finn Fanning, and Frances, Molly, and Emery Dixon; and one brother, Jack Fanning (Pat).
The family will greet friends Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 2-3 p.m., followed by A Celebration of Wayne's Life at 3 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be sent to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Birmingham.
