
Dr. Gerald E. Godfrey, Sr. of Inverness, Alabama, passed away March 10, 2024. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald E. Godfrey, Jr., and his parents, William E. Godfrey and Lucille Buckelew Godfrey.
Dr. Godfrey is survived by his wife, Jacqueline W. Godfrey; daughter, Melisonde S. Godfrey; daughter-in-law, Julie Turner Godfrey; grandchildren, Jordan Godfrey Stanley (David) and Jared Turner Godfrey; and three great-grandchildren.
Dr. Godfrey graduated from Adamsville Junior High, Minor High School, Birmingham Southern College (A.B.), University of Alabama (M.A.), and University of Alabama (Ed.D.). Most of his life he was a member of Crumley Chapel United Methodist Church and most recently a member of Christ Church United Methodist Church.
He is a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. From 1956-1961, choral director at Minor High School. From 1961-1990, a staff member of the Jefferson County Board of Education. He retired as Division Superintendent for Personnel.
Visitation will be at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 1-2 p.m., followed by the graveside service at 2 p.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Crumley Chapel United Methodist Church or Christ Church United Methodist Church.
