Helen Elizabeth Reid Shirley, age 88, of Montevallo, AL went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, December 18, 2017. She was retired from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and was an active member of Bible Baptist Church of Wilton, AL.
Mrs. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben B. and Ginnie S. Reid; grandparents, William Joseph and Lila Jane Keton Sheffield, and Robert Clifton and Edie B. Rigsby Reid; one brother, Alfred R. Reid; and one son, Kim D. Shirley.
Survivors include Mrs. Shirley’s three sons, Don W. Shirley of Montevallo, Richard A. Shirley of Montevallo, and Rod C. Shirley of Tuscaloosa, AL; grandchildren, Adam, Summer, Hannah, Grace, and Rachael Shirley of Tuscaloosa; and three great-grandchildren, Israel, Asher, and Eli.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. Visitation also will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Carrollton, GA, immediately followed by the 1:30 p.m. funeral at the church. Burial will be at the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Carrollton.
