

Jack S. Barry, Sr., age 86, of the Indian Springs community of Birmingham, AL, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 24, 2016. The funeral service was at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. Burial followed at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Rev. Donny Acton officiated. Jack grew up in West End and graduated from West End High. He started Barry Pattern and Foundry in his own backyard in 1950 and now the company covers a city block with his son and daughters shipping worldwide. Even at age 86, Jack was active in the family business. Jack owned and piloted several airplanes for many years and also had a boat building business. He loved Alabama Crimson Tide football, and during "The Bear's" reign, Jack followed the team wherever they played. He was an avid golfer, was a member of the Hole in One Club, and won many amateur golf tournaments. With his love for travel, Jack and his wife Bootsie covered all of the U.S. states and Canada in their motorhome several times with many of their RV friends. They also traveled to India and Europe several times. When they lived on Golf Drive in Hoover, AL, Jack won the Golf Drive Golf Tournament numerous times. He loved NASCAR racing and spent many hours in his own racecar. He served many years as Crew Chief for his son racing sprint cars nationwide and winning three championships. Jack was an active member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church. He was loved and respected by all who knew him in his work and community involvements. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Howitt and Lena Barry, and sisters, Joy Milam Nielsen and Jean Standard Hollingsworth. Survivors include Jack's wife, Bootsie Kullman Barry; one son, Jack Barry Jr. (Allison); three daughters, Debbie Barry McConnell (Bob), Denise Barry Gurley (Bob), and Donna Barry Bell (Danny); grandchildren, Keri McConnell McGehee (Andy), Jamie McConnell (Kelli), Candi McConnell Jones (Barry), Robert Barry Gurley, April Gurley Owen (Brandon), Courtney Danielle Bell, Whitney Lane Bell, Braden Ryan Bell (Ivy), Jackson Barry, and Sarah Elizabeth Barry; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jonathan and Brooke McGehee, Jake and Hutt McConnell, Dani and Bailey McConnell, Renlee and Adlee Jones, and Annaleigh and Adlee Owen. Memorial gifts: John Croyle's Big Oak Ranch or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
