Jackie was born in Stoneville, NC, on September 28, 1949. She graduated from Grimsley High School in Greensboro, NC.
Literacy and children’s welfare were very important to Jackie. She was very active with Assistance League of Birmingham, King’s Home, and UAB. She loved being with friends and bringing smiles to people’s faces. Her own smile lit up the room. She was proud of the mentoring she did to develop upcoming leaders during her State Farm career. She made the very best possible of the challenges that life threw at her.
Jackie was predeceased by her parents, Ramona Hatcher Johnson and James Wray. Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, William Tevendale; two daughters, Melody Johnson and Heather McCullough (Todd); one son, Peter Tevendale (Andrea); grandchildren, Tyler Tevendale, Alexander McCullough, and Sarah McCullough; nephews, David Tevendale (Shannon) and Shawn Tevendale (Jenny); great-nieces and great-nephews, Conner, Jack, Emma, Avery, and Rowan; two brothers-in-law, Richard Tevendale (Janet) and Gary Tevendale; and long-time family friend, Betty Kallam.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, October 15, 2018 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at the church, located at 7340 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham, AL 35242.
