After a hard-fought battle with cancer, James, “Jim or Jimmy,” Davis Edmondson went to be with our Lord and Savior on December 31, 2025. With James B. and Ruby Davis Edmondson as his parents, Jim was born on March 30, 1942 at West End Baptist Hospital in Birmingham, AL. He resided in Birmingham until he attended the University of Alabama, graduating in 1965 with a degree in business. His outgoing personality and self-motivation led him to a well-matched profession in sales. Working at Clow Corporation in Tarrant City, AL, he met his beautiful and soon to be wife, Vicky Lynn Perry. They married on February 14, 1969. Jim’s career as a manufacturer’s representative for water and sewer fittings led them to live in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, and back to Alabama. Jim and Vicky were blessed with four children and seven grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Jim was known for his outgoing personality, ability to tell stories and jokes, his wit, his commitment to family, and his devotion to our Lord. He loved to laugh and was able to talk and relate to anyone, never meeting a stranger. His love for his wife, his “angel,” was unmatched. He was exceedingly proud of his children and grandchildren. Jim and Vicky’s love for family eventually led them to move to Auburn, AL. As a lifelong and faithful University of Alabama fan, particularly in football, he joked that he never thought he would live in “purgatory” as he teasingly called Auburn. He lovingly described it as one of the best places he ever lived. He leaves a legacy like none other.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Vicky Lynn Perry Edmondson, daughters Shannon Edmondson Evans (Jeff) of Auburn, Stacy Edmondson Mathews (Charlie) of Ocala, FL, Summer Edmondson Vaughan (Gary) of Auburn, son, Mitchell Brock Edmondson (Christina) of Birmingham, AL. He was the amazing Daddy Jim to seven grandchildren: Molly Butler, Madeline Butler, Trip Butler, Jake Evans, Katelynn Evans, Henry Vaughan, and Owen Vaughan. Jim is also survived by his sister, Gail Herring of Blackshear, GA, brother-in-law Dan Perry, sister-in-law Kaye Perry, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will host a visitation on Saturday, January 10th, at 11am CT at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 12pm CT.
