Jane Ann Robinson Carpenter

Jane was born in Watertown, New York, on October 16, 1928, to Ray and Lydia Robinson. She graduated from Beaver College (Arcadia University) in 1950 with a degree in education and devoted her life to teaching and nurturing children. Additionally, Jane had the ability to make people feel special and to share her faith with those she encountered.

Jane was active in children’s ministries at various churches including teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Watertown, New York, teaching Sunday School, writing children’s curriculum for the Southern Baptist Convention and serving as the Director of Preschool at Tallowood Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, and teaching Sunday School, serving as the Director of the Weekday Preschool and leading Weekday Preschool Chapel at Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.

Jane is survived by her sister, Mary Grow (John) of Rome, New York; daughters, Sally Bird (Howard) of Annandale, New Jersey, Diane Krueger (Steve) of Gold Canyon, Arizona; son, Steven Carpenter (Karen) of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Gregory Bird (Claire) of Pelham, New Hampshire, Sarah Shive (Jesse) of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, Ryan Bird (Leanna) of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Anna, Sarah and Matthew Carpenter of Charlotte, North Carolina; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ross Carpenter; her parents, and her brothers, Richard and Eugene Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, our family requests donations be made to Meadow Brook Baptist Church, 4984 Meadow Brook Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35242.

The family would like to thank our mom’s friends and caregivers who provided her love and support to fulfill her wish of staying in her home until her death.

A memorial service will be held at Meadow Brook Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 3:00 pm with a visitation beginning at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow after the service at the church. A burial service will be held at a later date in Watertown, New York.
