Jean Martin King, 82, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025. Jean was born June 10, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Marian Frances (Mary) George, the daughter of Spurgeon Hoskins George and Maud Hazel. At a young age, Jean was adopted by Nell Faye Cutshaw and George Clarence Coupland. Marian Frances George later married Charles Elmer Quandt Jr.
Jean earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to receive her Master’s in Hospital Administration from UAB. She dedicated much of her professional career to serving others through physical therapy and hospital administration at Lakeshore Hospital, Brookwood Hospital, and HealthSouth.
In 1986, Jean married Joseph H. King, Jr., and together they built not only a beautiful life but also a business, owning and operating Ingram Equipment Co. for over 17 years. Her tireless work ethic shaped the lives of those around her, whether in business, family, or faith.
Jean’s passion for people shone brightly in many areas of her life. She was a beloved soccer coach who guided both boys’ and girls’ competitive teams to multiple Alabama State Championships. It wasn’t just about winning, but about building character, confidence, and connection.
Her faith in Jesus Christ was her guiding light. She was deeply involved in her church community, leading women’s Bible studies and walking closely with others through life’s joys and challenges. Her legacy of faith and kindness will live on in the countless lives she touched.
Jean loved her family with her whole heart. Her children and grandchildren brought her immense joy, and her Golden Retrievers were her loyal companions — cherished and loved as part of the family. She especially treasured time at Lake Martin, where she felt a deep sense of peace and belonging.
Jean is survived by her loving children, Jeffrey Allen Martin (wife Annette) and Royal Stanley Martin IV; her adored grandchildren, Jeffrey Allen Martin, Jr. (wife Millie), Royal Stanley Martin V, Mary Helen Martin, Anna Marie Martin, and Jaelyn Helen Martin; her sister, Nilda Stuff; and brother, CE Quandt. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nellie Faye Coupland.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, 2061 Kentucky Avenue, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216. Reception to follow the service.
The family invites everyone to join them in wearing bright colors to the service and reception on July 31 because Jean loved bright colors.
Jean lived a rich and fulfilling life — a life rooted in faith, filled with service, and overflowing with love. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
