Jerry Rexal Burnett

Jerry R. Burnett, 76, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday morning, November 29, 2017. He retired from State Farm Insurance in 2013, after owning a successful State Farm agency in the Birmingham, Alabama area for 49 years.

Jerry was a long-time member of the Shades Mountain Church of Christ, where he served as treasurer for 32 years. He and his wife Brenda, formerly of Alex City, Alabama, loved to travel and visited over 20 countries, but Jerry’s favorite place was always at home.

Jerry was a kind and gentle man who loved his family. He enjoyed serving his community and helping others. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Jeremiah Burnett and Georgia Dodd Burnett; sisters, Edith Tittle, Bernice Voivedich, and Bettye Dewitt; and brothers, Orbie Burnett, Ralph Burnett, Dalton Burnett, Billl Burnett, and Cohen Burnett.

Survivors include Jerry’s wife, Brenda Sherer Burnett; two daughters, Jerri Burnett and Trina Geram (Scott); one granddaughter, Shae Ganus (Josh); three great-grandchildren, Emmersen Ganus, Chandler Ganus, and Bennett Ganus; one sister, Carolyn Norris (Dewey); two brothers, Walter Burnett (Jean) and David Burnett (Pat); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Shades Mountain Church of Christ, Active pallbearers will be Chad Barnett, Sam Branch, Scott Geram, Bo Parker, Ethan Southern, and Michael Tittle. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Baxley, Butch Wear, and Bob West.
