

Jerry Don Dickey, age 73, departed this life and went to Heaven on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Jerry was born on November 17, 1947 to James Walton Dickey and Helen Novadell Sipes in Troup, TX. Jerry attended high school in Abernathy, TX and began his college education at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, TX. Jerry earned his bachelor’s degree at Troy State University in Troy, AL. Jerry was preceded in death by his father and mother and his brother and sister-in-law Billy Joe and Marcia Dickey.
Jerry was a dedicated husband and father as well as a faithful deacon for 37 years, most of those at Franklin Road Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. Most recently, Jerry was a member of Glen Iris Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL.
Jerry married his teenage sweetheart Joyce Marie Jordan on August 16, 1967 in Houston, TX. Their marriage of 54 years was blessed with four children, their spouses and nineteen grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his wife, Joyce Dickey, of 54 years, his children and their spouses: Jeri Lynn and Matt Wilkerson; Jason and Rebecca Dickey; Justin and Kim Dickey; and Jonathan and Leah Dickey; and nineteen grandchildren: Joy, Austin, Matthew, Allie, Andrew and his wife Jordan, Stephen, Grace, Hope, Gavin, Alex, Peter, Anderson, Jackson, Jon Paul, Owen, Timothy, Elliot, Mary Katherine, and Sarah Jordan. Additionally, Jerry is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Jim Bob and Diane Dickey; Deborah and Eddie Trammell; James and Patricia Dickey; Paul and Linda Dickey; and Raymond and Tress Millsap. Jerry was lovingly known as PawPaw, not only by his grandchildren, but also by many others as well.
Jerry’s life is highlighted by his distinguished service to our country. Jerry served 10 years active duty in the U.S. Navy, and 25 years in the U.S. Army National Guard for a total of 35 years of military service. Jerry served as an aircraft mechanic and was a veteran of the Viet Nam War.
Jerry’s greatest mission was to see all of his children and grandchildren have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It was Jerry’s passion to serve God, his family, and his country. Jerry fought a good fight, kept the faith, and finished well.
A visitation for Jerry will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Glen Iris Baptist Church, 1137 10th Pl S, Birmingham, AL 35205. A funeral service will occur Friday, August 27, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1137 10th Pl S, Birmingham, AL 35205. A committal service will occur Friday, August 27, 2021 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
