

John Newton Gillespie, Jr.,79, of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on December 1, 1942. He was married to Linda Robin (Lowery) Gillespie on March 27, 1965.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who was truly loved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various callings. John was very kind and always happy to lend a helping hand. He will be missed by many friends and family members.
John had a 26-year career in the United States Air Force, which included working on Air Force One under several U.S. Presidents. He received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Troy University. He went on to have a career as a computer programmer working for the U.S. Federal Government.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nell Gillespie. Survivors include his wife, Linda Gillespie; his two daughters, Kelly Vaziri (Saeid) and Kristine Sparrowhawk (Kele); grandchildren, Jonathan Vaziri (Hiba), Kayhan Vaziri (Rae), Stefan Vaziri (Chie), and Zoe Sommer (Jeff); and great-granddaughters, Norah and Luna Vaziri. John is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Green and Genell Bloyd (Sam); along with a nephew and several nieces.
The family will greet friends on Monday, October 31, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. Also on Monday, October 31, 2022, the gravesite committal service will be at 12:30 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
