John W Underwood

John W. Underwood, age 81, of Chelsea, AL passed away on January 29, 2020. He was born to Paschel and Inez Underwood on November, 30, 1938 in Underwood, AL. John graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Engineering. He served in the 3rd Army, 503rd Armoured Division, and was stationed in Frankfort, Germany. John worked for Weyerhauser and retired after 25 years of service, he was also a licensed Real Estate Agent in AL and FL, and also a Home Appraiser. John's many passions included his love for Georgia Tech and Auburn University, he also enjoyed traveling in Europe and the Western United States. He always enjoyed reading U.S. history books and biographies of the U.S. Patriots. John was dedicated member to his church, North Shelby Baptist. Through his dedication and his love for the Lord he made it a point to read through the Bible every year.

John is preceded in death by his oldest son, John Edge Underwood and his parents Paschel Howard Underwood and Inez Gracie Fitts Underwood. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 58 years, Martha Ann; two children, Laura Hubbard (Dorian) of Vestavia Hills and Seth Rayburn Underwood (Brittney) of Hoover, AL; four grandchildren, Greyson Hubbard, Zachary Hubbard, Caden Underwood, and Anna Kate Underwood; one brother, George Underwood (Reida); one niece Melissa Hodges (Jeff) and one nephew, Hank Underwood.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service to follow at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Montevallo City Cemetery concluding service.

In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to The Big Oak Ranch in John's name.
