Joseph John Ciza Jr.

Joseph Ciza, Jr. went to be with our Lord on April 17, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ciza, Sr and Marion Ciza, and his beloved daughter, Judi Hobbs. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sherry, his sons, Joseph III, John (Kim), and Jimmy (Tania), son-in-law, John Hobbs, his 8 grandchildren (and their spouses), and 9 great-grandchildren.

Joe was born on June 25, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Elmont, Long Island, NY. Joe worked at the local dairy growing up. He attended Grover Cleveland High School, where he was on the swim team. Then he attend Hofstra University studying chemistry. After that he joined the army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne and was chief radio operator. When he left the service, he began work for New York Bell Telephone. Then he and Sherry Tamburello were married and lived on Long Island, New York where they began their family. After a couple of years, they moved to Birmingham, Alabama (Sherry's hometown) and continued their family.

Joe was a devout Catholic and attended St Aloysius Church. He was a kind, intelligent, and loving person with a laid back personality. He was noted for never raising his voice or having an ill word to say. He laid the foundation for his children and set an example for all who knew him showing love, devotion, hard work, and kindness. Joe was a very talented person who really could do anything - pilot, computer and electronics technician, amateur radio operator (HAM radio who built his own radios), coach, photographer, electrician, plumber, carpenter, minor auto mechanic work, brick and cement work, school bus driver, swim instructor teaching his kids and grandkids how to swim, scout leader, and the list could go on and on.

Joe lived his life as a Christian and will truly be missed.

A Visitation will be held on April 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, AL followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. An inurnment will be held at Our Lady of the Valley at a later date.
