Joseph (Joe) Andrew Slane of Birmingham, AL, passed away on October 21, 2025. He was born in Harrisonburg, VA, on December 2, 1954, attended King College in Bristol, TN, and received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA. He then served as pastor at Franklin Presbyterian in Franklin, VA for eight years. Afterwards, he served as pastor at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL, for 28 years before retiring in 2016. He was preceded in death by parents, Denny Slane and Mary Jo (Pancake) Slane, as well as wife, Krista (Unterzuber) Slane. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Brasell, son Elliot Slane, and daughter-in-law Allison Martin.
Services will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church (1124 Montgomery Hwy, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216) at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 28, and at All Saints Episcopal Church (110 W Hawthorne Rd, Birmingham, AL 35209) at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 29.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to either of these two churches; Contemplative Outreach, Ltd; or the Center for Action and Contemplation.
