

Juanita "Brenda" Jackson Thomas, resident of Birmingham died Friday afternoon, February 27, 2015 at UAB Hospital. She was 92 years of age and died following a brief illness. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The Celebration of Brenda's Life will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 in Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham with Jan Watts officiating. Private interment will take place following at Southern Heritage Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 29, 1922. Her parents, Thomas O. Jackson, Sr. and Beulah Cross Jackson, both of Fayette County, Tennessee, preceded her in death. She was educated in the Fayette County, Tennessee and Birmingham, Alabama Public School Systems. She married on October 25, 1941 James H. Thomas of Birmingham, who preceded her in death on November 18, 2003. Mrs. Thomas was an Episcopalian and member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Birmingham. She was employed by Briarwood Christian School for many years and will be remembered for her tireless commitment to caring for children. Survivors of Mrs. Thomas include a daughter, Diane Thomas Ryan and son James Michael Thomas, both of Birmingham. The family requests that memorials be directed to The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama.
