

He was born in Eva, Alabama on September 16, 1936, to the late Johnny Fred Morgan and Bertha Mae Gregory Morgan. Leon graduated as valedictorian of his 1955 class at Eva High School and then went on to receive his bachelor's in Math from Peabody College in 1960. He served with the Alabama National Guard, was a member of the Masons, and was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. Bluegrass music and the banjo were lifelong passions he enjoyed.
Preceding Leon in death are his parents, his grandparents, Zachariah Grant Colfax Morgan and Missouri Ann Adeline Morgan; John M. Gregory and Telitha Christine Gregory; and his siblings, R. Jack Morgan; Imogene Morgan McCauley; Dr. Burma Morgan Wallace; and Marie Morgan Nelson.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Barnes Morgan; his children, Dr. John R. Morgan (Terri) and Elizabeth A. Morgan Brandon (Miles); and his grandchildren, Grace Elizabeth Brandon; James Randolph Morgan; Annamarye Ruth Morgan; Claire Logan Brandon; and Sophie Gregory Brandon.
A visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Eva First United Methodist Church Cemetery in Eva, Alabama.
